About yourself:
One good man! Age 48-59 (flexible on this). A sharp mind, a gentle demeanor, a great sense of humor. Politically left of center, pro-environment, non-religious (I can handle a certain amount of "spirituality," but totally New Age would be a nightmare for me). You like to think, talk and listen. You are inquisitive and like to read and to learn. You might be a professor or a carpenter, an investor or an artist. Sports probably are not a HUGE part of your life. You likely enjoy at least some of these: symphony, traditional and/or offbeat/small-space theater, modern dance, opera, ballet - a somewhat cultured man at least at times, but not a snob. Because at the same time, you're down to earth, genuine, real. You're looking for someone near your own age whom you can really relate to. And you aren't egocentric, even if you're good-looking or in great shape (these are not requirements for me - it's chemistry that counts). Likewise, even though you can't help admiring the young and the gorgeous (I guess we all do - it's genetics, right?), that's not your first - or second - priority in your search for a soulmate. Oh, by the way, in case I've given you the wrong impression, you really DON'T have to be perfect - just perfect for me!
Looking for:

Playful and smart!

Fun-loving, passionate and disaffected middle-aged (YIKES!) Yank looking northward for a variety of reasons, some of which I shouldn't have to explain to Canadians! (And no, it wasn't the nicely done Olympics that made me aware B.C. existed.) I'm hoping to make a trip up in fall, if not sooner. (I wish I could spend the whole summer there with all of you, instead of in the mosquito-laden, hot and humid here!)

So I'd love to relocate to a great city with a great climate, culture, a bunch of thinking people, diversity, an outdoorsy nature and real-live mass transit - hey, is that the city you live in?

My mania to move coincides with the fact that I truly feel ready to find the ("a") right person with whom to make a life.

I'm never been married, which is just the way it's turned out and has suited me fine, mostly. For a long time, I had no interest in marriage. For the record, yes, I've had chances - it just was never right.

I've NEVER wanted to have kids. (My sister and I each wanted to be an aunt, though.) :)

I'm a former newspaper copy-editor who most recently lived in San Diego, California (for more than 20 years - how does the time get away so fast?!).

For too long now, I've been living in the college town of Carbondale, Illinois, with my sister. So I'm back in the Midwest, where we grew up (in St. Louis, Missouri). Let's just say things here in Carbondale haven't worked out as hoped for.

So why am I blathering on?

Well, I'm searching for a soulmate.

I'm looking for someone with similar views and a complementary personality to fall wildly in love with - and stay there! (And vice versa, of course.)

As to my views, and some of my interests, see the "Looking for" section, please! (I started there; don't ask me why.)

I appreciate intelligence, education (though I have only a bachelor's degree) and literate speech and writing - and the ability to be looser and more relaxed, too.

I like movies - some mainstream, some offbeat/indie/foreign. I love culture, though I'm a better appreciator of it than a fount of knowledge about it.

I groove to the blues, to nature, and to human touch.

I love to travel, and haven't done anywhere near enough of it.

Sailing is something I'd love to share with someone who knows something about it!

Belief-wise, I'm a cultural outlier - no trailblazer, just left-wing and god(s)-free. I do go to a Unitarian fellowship, for the, uh, well, fellowship! Our "congregation" is full of current and retired professors and other interesting types. I enjoy their knowledge and experiences. And I have a great need to be around like-minded people, though I try my best to get on with all sorts and know I should keep an open mind.

I crave connection, chemistry - and care about what really counts.

If you've read this far and sense that we could be on similar wavelengths, please drop me a line.

I'll post a picture as soon as I'm able. (Technical issues.)

Best of luck to both of us in our search!
